How it all Started

Hey, I’m Taz! When I moved to Greenville, I was excited to explore the city and meet new people. I didn’t know many people, so I tried everything—posting in Facebook groups, giving Bumble for friends a go, and even going on a few “friend dates.” You know, the ones where it feels like you’re auditioning to be liked. I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were all just trying to impress each other instead of really connecting. And it just felt… off. I found myself thinking, “I know I have a lot to offer, so why does it feel like this?” Why do I meet people once or twice, and then we end up playing the endless “let’s meet up” texting game? (You know, the one that never really goes anywhere.)

Just because we’re adults, meeting new friends shouldn’t feel this hard or impossible. We all deserve to find our people and be accepted for who we are, right?

Then I realized what was missing: there was no real connection because there wasn’t a shared foundation. It wasn’t that people weren’t nice, but without a common thread, it was hard for anything meaningful to stick. In school or at work, friendships happen naturally because we’re working toward the same goal or seeing each other regularly. But as adults, where do we find people we genuinely want to spend time with, and who feel the same way?

That’s why I started doing these events. I realized I wasn’t the only one craving more than quick chats or fleeting connections. It wasn’t just about meeting new people—it was about finding the ones who get it. People who value growth, are kind, and want to share real, meaningful experiences. It’s not about packing your calendar with events; it’s about creating connections that feel genuine, where shared interests and values just make everything click—like Goldilocks finding what feels just right.

Why What's Up GVL Exists

Greenville’s got a lot going on, but let’s be real—it’s not always easy to find people you truly connect with, those who share your curiosity, interests, and goals for growth. That’s where What’s Up GVL comes in. I created this space to make it easier to meet people you genuinely vibe with, build real connections, and feel supported along the way. It’s all about finding a place where you can be yourself, explore what sparks your curiosity, and dive into new interests with others on the same journey. My hope is for this to be a space where you feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep growing. When we have a strong foundation, everything from casual brunches to creative nights flows naturally because we’re building something real and meaningful together.

Mission & Vision

I believe in the power of connection and community, which is why all the events I host are completely FREE. These meetups are my way of giving back, creating a space where we can support each other and build genuine connections through shared passions. Whether you’re exploring new languages and cultures, sparking creativity, diving into meaningful discussions, or focusing on self-development and mindfulness, you’ll find a supportive space and people who share your vibe. (Wow, you’re still with me? Pretty sure we’re about to become besties.)

Improv comedy is a big part of what I offer, and it’s more than just laughs. Improv helps us break down walls, step out of our comfort zones, and connect on a deeper level. It’s such a supportive craft that everyone should try at least once. In this no-pressure space, we lift each other up, contribute to each other’s growth, and build real bonds.

One of my personal missions in life has always been to do something that brings people support, joy, and smiles. Through What’s Up GVL, I see myself living that mission, sharing this journey with others, and creating connections that truly mean something.✨

PS: Ever wondered why it's called Whats Up GVL?

When someone asks, “What’s up, Greenville?” this is (or could be!) one of the answers—a space dedicated to sharing what’s happening, what’s inspiring, and what’s bringing people together in our amazing city. When I first dreamed up What’s Up GVL, it was simply going to be a place to share the events I host. But it’s become so much more—a place to discover your vibe, find your tribe, and celebrate the connections that make Greenville feel like home.

So hey, this is what’s up!
